Do you keep a journal or diary? How often do you write in it?
Submitted by Kim.
I have tried on numerous occasions to keep a diary. I don't really have the discipline for it and end up deciding my life is too boring to chronicle anyway, so I quit. My 92 year old grandmother has kept a daily diary all of her adult life and she still has all of them. A couple of years ago she made a cookbook of all of her favorite recipes for her grandchildren for christmas. My favorite part of the cookbook is the great little notes that accompany many of the recipes, like "Aunt Fern brought this jello salad to christmas dinner in 1965" or "I made this dish to ring in the new year of 1972". I'm assuming that she came up with some of those dates by looking through old copies of her diary, and I think that maybe I should try the diary thing again.
What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Submitted by Brennan.
I don't think I could pick a favorite. However, my family's big traditional it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without dish is oyster dressing. We are spending Thanksgiving with Dave's family so I won't have oyster dressing this year, but I'm going to try to convince Mom that it wouldn't be sacrilegious to have it at Christmas. This is mostly because it struck me the other day that Mom doesn't have a recipe written down for it, and I don't know how to make it, so I want her to teach me how it's made.
What food or drink do you love when it's cold out? (Recipes and recommendations, please!)
Whenever the weather turns chilly, my mom brews up a big batch of hot spiced tea. She and I have spent many an afternoon or evening sipping hot spiced tea and chatting. I have already warned her that I am expecting her to make a big batch when she comes to visit next month.
Hot Spiced Tea
Mix 3 3/4 quarts water and 2 cups of sugar in a large pot and bring to a boil. Turn the heat down to low and add: 1/2 cup lemon juice, 1 cup orange juice, 1 1/2 teaspoons whole cloves, 4 sticks cinnamon broken into peices, 2 regular or 1 family sized tea bag(s).
Let steep over low heat for around 20 minutes. Store in a cool place, will keep for about a week. Reheat to serve.

What albums are in heavy rotation for you right now?
I have a tendency to get totally addicted to one album and just listen to it over and over again. The current obsession is The Wood Brothers "Ways Not to Lose".
I think I've mentioned this here before but since I'm a little homesick for Springfield, all of the May Apple recording artist albums have been in heavy rotation at our house lately.
Do you have any tattoos? If not, if you were going to get inked, what would you get?
I got this to celebrate the end of tax season a couple of years ago. It's on my back so I forget I have it until someone else mentions it. My brother and I had this big discussion about whether tattoos should be meaningful or just some sort of random shape. He believes that they should be something meaningful. There is a part of me that feels that way too, but everything that I found meaningful 10 years ago when I first started considering a tattoo makes me cringe today and I fear that what I find meaningful today will make me cringe 10 years down the road, so I went with a random shape that I liked. If I could have the tattoo that I really wanted, the one that I wanted 10 years ago and the one I still want today, I would have some scroll pattern tattooed in a ring around the upper part of the second toe on my right foot. I am told this would be incredibly painful and wouldn't last, and that any reputable tattoo parlor would refuse to do it.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
Without a doubt, hands down, Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt from Cash's American IV: The Man Comes Around. One of my college roommates would lie on her bed and listen to The Downward Spiral whenever she was in a black mood, which was quite often, so I was pretty familiar with and liked the Nine Inch Nails version of the song, but it doesn't come near to the Cash version.
I'm mesmerized every time I hear Johnny Cash sing it.Our new dining room table. The chairs required quite a bit of assembly, so we didn't get to try it out yesterday. We will have dinner there tonight. Mara is excited to eat somewhere that the entire table won't shake when someone cuts their food. Dave and I were both impressed with the butterfly leaf that folds up and stows away underneath the table top. This picture was taken without the leaf.
What's one thing that you'd like to get done this weekend? Is there anything holding you back?
I'd like to finally get our new dining room table purchased. We got rid of our old table and mis-matched chairs before we left Springfield. They were in really bad shape. We have been eating at a card table the last month and a half while shopping for the right table. Last weekend in Roanoke we found a table and six chairs that we really liked for a very good price. We had driven my Beetle so we couldn't buy the table that day, but we had to take Dave's truck to Roanoke for a completely unrelated reason on Wednesday, so we planned on getting the table then. Wednesday came and we took the truck to Roanoke and completely forgot to go buy the table. So the plan is to go tomorrow and get it. I'll be really glad to stash our wobbly card table in the closet and eat a real table again.
